Take a chance on Mamma Mia! at Kravis Center. You won't regret it. The show is at Kravis Center through Sunday June 30, 2024 for its 25th anniversary tour. Yes, you read that right....Mamma Mia! is 25! If you're a fan of ABBA's music, this show is a must-go. If you want to get whisked away to Greece for a night with a stellar cast, priceless comedic moments, and some riveting dance numbers, this a show you won't want to miss. And the crowds dress up for this show! It was a sea of flowy Grecian goddess-inspired peasant tops and skirts, stacked bangle bracelets, and boho chic fashion.
The musical revolves around a young woman named Sophie who is about to get married on a Greek island where she lives with her mother, Donna.
Alisa Melendez shines as Sophie as she comes face-to-face with her three potential dads: Harry, played by Rob Marnell, Bill, portrayed by Jim Newman, and actor Victor Wallace as the beloved character Sam. Christine Sherrill delights as the fearless and independent matriarch of the Greek manor, Donna. While the character of Donna is all work and no play these days, attempting to upkeep her Grecian resort, her wild rock and roll past inevitably unfolds, and we learn that fiery woman is still very much alive in Donna, and she's about to make a killer comeback.
Donna’s friends Rosie, played by Carly Sakolove, and Tanya, played by Jalynn Steele are brilliant to complete the trio that is Donna and The Dynamos. These ladies are Super Troupers in every scene they appear in.
With huge numbers such as “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S., "The Winner Takes It All," and many more hits, it's a fantastic escape for a while.
J.D. Danner and Judy Routley performed on the opening night of Mamma Mia!, June 25, at Kravis Center to kick off the arrival of Mamma Mia! at the iconic West Palm Beach theater. Danner and Routley performed a soulful array of acoustic hits such as "Drift Away," "Bring It On Home" and "Angel From Montgomery," Theater patrons danced their way to their seats as they prepared for a full evening of ABBA music to unfold.
My 9-year-old son Jack Henry accompanied me at this show and we had an ABBAsolutely awesome time experiencing this night together. Expect the people around you to be dancing in their seats and singing along. I mean...how can you not?
Mamma Mia! runs through Sunday, June 30th, at the Kravis Center, 701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach. Tickets run $52-$130. Call 561-832-7469 or visit kravis.org.
