Grateful Dead founding member Bobby Weir proved is still "Playing In The Band!" The 77-year-old delivered a marathon performance that kept the packed Broward Center crowd grooving into 2025. Backed by his razor-sharp Wolf Bros ensemble, Weir took fans on a three-set journey through his storied catalog.
The first set hit vintage Dead territory with crisp renditions of "Friend of the Devil" and "Bird Song." The middle frame got exploratory with a "Dark Star," "Eyes of the World" sequence that showed Weir's continued ability to navigate the Dead's most cosmic corners. "Scarlet Begonias" closed the set with serious heat.
By the time midnight approached, Weir and co. were firing on all cylinders. A surprise "Tequila" tease during "Silvio" had the room erupting, while the closing "Not Fade Away" seemed especially poignant coming from a musician who's spent six decades keeping the flame alive. If this gig was any indication, Bobby's still got plenty of gas in the tank for 2025 and we are Grateful. Bobby Weir and the Wolf Bros will perform at Broward Center for the Performing Arts again Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.
